INTOO hosted a HR Leaders Roundtable in Birmingham to explore how careers are changing. The event took place on Tuesday 11 October 2022 and brought HR leaders together for an open discussion about career development, retention and the changing relationship between employers and employees. <\/span><\/p>\n

Why career development matters<\/h2>\n

Working life has changed significantly in recent years. As a result, career development has become more important for both employers and employees.<\/p>\n

For employers, it plays a key role in attracting, engaging and retaining talent. For employees, it can help them build skills, gain new experience and strengthen their long-term employability.<\/p>\n

At the same time, many people are looking for more flexible roles. They want work that supports growth, development and wider career opportunities.<\/p>\n

Reimagining the employer-employee relationship<\/h2>\n

The roundtable explored how organisations can respond to these changing expectations. It also looked at the role employers play in helping people shape meaningful careers.<\/p>\n

For many organisations, this means rethinking the traditional career path. It also means creating more opportunities for employees to develop, move, learn and grow.<\/p>\n

Career development is closely linked to retention. Therefore, it should form a key part of any people strategy.<\/p>\n

Career as the golden thread<\/h2>\n

The discussion focused on career as a golden thread that connects many employee choices.<\/p>\n

A career conversation can lead to internal development. It can also support a change in role, a new perspective on work, retirement planning or a decision to move on.<\/p>\n

Because of this, employers need to think carefully about what careers mean today. They also need to consider how they can respond in a practical and supportive way.<\/p>\n

An open and supportive discussion<\/h2>\n

The event was designed as an interactive discussion over a three-course lunch. This gave attendees the chance to share ideas, challenges and experiences in a relaxed setting.<\/p>\n

It also created space for honest conversation about the pressures organisations are facing. These included retention, engagement, employee expectations and the future of work.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead<\/h2>\n

Career development continues to be an important focus for employers. As organisations navigate change, supporting people with clear career pathways is more valuable than ever.<\/p>\n
