INTOO Future World of Work Report 2026

The Loyalty Deficit: Trust, Talent and the Future Workforce

The world of work is still changing quickly. However, this year’s Future World of Work report highlights a deeper challenge beneath the surface: the growing trust gap between employers and employees.

About the Future World of Work report

Now in its sixth edition, INTOO’s Future World of Work research series explores the trends shaping UK workplaces, careers and workforce strategy.

This year’s report, The Loyalty Deficit: Trust, Talent and the Future Workforce, is based on original research with 1,000 UK respondents. All respondents worked in organisations with 250 or more employees.

The findings show that the traditional employment deal still broadly holds. However, trust is under pressure. Employees want fairness, honest communication and meaningful development. They also want greater confidence that their organisation is being straight with them.

What the Future World of Work research explores

This year’s report looks at five key areas:

  • The erosion of trust between employers and employees
  • The human skills needed in an AI-driven world
  • Wellbeing, burnout and sustainable performance
  • Career development and workforce planning
  • The optimism gap between HR Leaders and Managers

Why the Future World of Work findings matter

One of the clearest findings is that HR Leaders and Managers often see the workplace very differently. While both groups recognise that trust has eroded, HR Leaders are often more positive about their organisation’s response.

By contrast, Managers are closer to the day-to-day employee experience. As a result, they often see a different reality.

The report also looks at the impact of AI and automation. In addition, it explores the growing importance of human skills, the role burnout is playing in unwanted attrition, and why external career support is becoming more valuable.
